FFK herre 2 registered their first victory of the season (when the opposition managed to turn up) beating Hafnia FC 2 in a hard fought “9 goal thriller” at Bellahoj. The game saw imports Sam Leeds and Jamie Black make their debuts for FFK 2.

The home team had the best of the early exchanges and took the lead through Rune Thomsen who latched onto a rebound from Asbjorn Leeth’s shot and fired past the helpless Hafnia goalie. The home team continued to push forward but committed too many men to the attack and were caught on the break by Hafnia’s unmarked forward. FFK should have been on the powerplay shortly afterwards when a Hafnia defender overreacted to a late but fair challenge upon their goalkeeper. However the referee decided the best decision was to award a free hit to Hafnia.

FFK did manage to gain a powerplay early in the second period with the firey Hafnia centre receiving his first of 3 spells in the penalty box. After some positive work on the powerplay the breakthrough came when a Hafnia back came under pressure from 2 FFK forwards and decided the safest option was to place the ball neatly into his own goal.

Taking a slender 1 goal lead into the third period, FFK were not going to be content to sit back against the tiring Hafnia team. However, an FFK shot immediately from the face off was returned over the FFK centre and was neatly controlled by Hafnia’s angry centre and fired home on the turn levelling the scores 2-2. FFK responded immediately regaining the lead with a shot from just inside the opposition half by Sven Tarras which was too hot for the Hafnia keeper to handle.

FFK then watched the game begin to slip away from them as Hafnia scored 2 in quick succession with 5 minutes played in the final period. The resilient FFK did not give up however and reacted quickly to level the scores. Neat play by FFK defenders Leeds and Wallin set Andreas Neilsen free down the left wing. He went on to pick out Black perfectly for a first time shot over the sprawling Hafnia goalkeeper. FFK continued to press for a winner but were unable to convert their chances in another powerplay.

FFK sealed the 5-4 victory with 6 minutes to go when Black set up Hjelm at the back post on the breakaway. FFK held on for a well deserved win and will be confident going into next week’s clash away to Eggeslevmagle SG&IF Floorball, a team yet to register a point this season.
